Agape Clinic
In 2017, Agape established a permanent clinic in La Gonave, Haiti. Our new independent compound has two buildings, two covered outdoor spaces and a courtyard. One building houses our prenatal and hypertension clinic and the other has a conference room, dedicated classrooms, locked storage and work spaces for our Water With Blessings program and our Days for Girls Enterprise.
Our Agape Prenatal Clinic is staffed by Charlotte Henry, MD and nurse/midwife Wiselande Jean who provide prenatal care and treat hypertension five days a week. They care for pregnant women by providing physical exams, blood pressure checks, distributing prenatal vitamins, free medications and educating women about potential pregnancy complications to reduce infant mortality.
On one our visits a volunteer pediatrician taught our local staff a hands-on course with techniques for immediate care of a newborn after delivery, including proper suctioning and ventilation. They are now using these techniques to save babies’ lives. We work closely with Wesleyan Hospital, a local hospital, to provide critical services on an as need basis.
Johanne Sebastien is our clinic manager and Joseph Wilto manages the water filtration program.
Health Education at our Agape Clinic In La Gonave.
Nurse/midwife Wiselande Jean and Dr. Charlotte Henry are educating a group of Agape clinic patients about hypertension, which often has no symptoms. Over time, if untreated, it can cause health conditions such as heart disease and stroke. Over 90% of Agape hypertensive patients have much improved blood pressure.
